A physician who believes medicine works best
when it starts with knowing you.
Board-certified internist. Executive health physician. Over a decade caring for complex patients at some of California's leading institutions.
Dr. Varinthrej (Vee) Pitis
Board-Certified Internal Medicine · San Diego, California
Dr. Pitis is a board-certified internist with over a decade of experience caring for complex patients across some of California's most respected medical institutions. She currently practices at Scripps Clinic Carmel Valley and serves as a physician at the Scripps Center for Executive Health — where she has deepened her expertise in comprehensive, executive-level preventive care.
Her clinical foundation was built at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Beverly Hills, where she completed her internal medicine residency through the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA. She subsequently spent nearly four years as a hospitalist with the Stanford Hospitalist Medical Group at Cedars-Sinai, caring for high-acuity patients with complex, multi-system conditions — and serving as Director of Continuing Medical Education for the group.
Before moving to San Diego, Dr. Pitis practiced primary care at Cedars-Sinai Medical Group, where she built a panel of over 2,100 patients in under a year — a reflection of the trust patients placed in her from the very beginning. She also served on the Cedars-Sinai Bioethics Committee and has peer-reviewed publications in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology and the Journal of Heart and Lung Transplant.
Outside of medicine, Dr. Pitis finds joy in dancing, making art with her two daughters, and traveling with her family. She speaks English and Thai. Those who know her well say the same qualities that make her a thoughtful physician — curiosity, presence, and warmth — show up just as fully in the rest of her life.
How Dr. Pitis approaches care
Great medicine doesn't happen in 18 minutes. It happens when a physician has the time and continuity to understand a patient's full story — and the expertise to act on it.
Preventive first
The most meaningful interventions happen before symptoms appear. Dr. Pitis builds care plans around anticipating and reducing risk — not just managing what's already present.
Longitudinal thinking
Your health is a story that unfolds over years. Understanding that arc — your history, your trajectory, your goals — is what separates good medicine from reactive problem-solving.
The whole person
Health doesn't exist in isolation from work, family, stress, and life. Dr. Pitis takes the time to understand the full context of each patient's life before making recommendations.
